Songs as Emotional Therapy Music as therapy has been known for some time. The expression "Music hath charms to soothe a savage breast, to soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak", describes the power of music to relieve the mind and body of stress. Songs that are written from deep emotional experiences can do more than just soothe. By awakening the deep disquiet within, well written, truthful songs can connect the listener to the songwriter's joy, happiness, fear, sadness or anger and create a sort of affirmation of the soul. "I've been through what you've been through and know what you're feeling", is the message that can create a therapeutic affect in the listener by connecting to and validating their feelings and experiences. My Love, Lullabies & Fairytales album starts with an orchestral lullaby for the dream of wanting a relationship. Then follows a song of longing for an actual relationship. The third song of the cycle represents the lusty & happy phase of an attraction. Shortly after that the "cute-love-stage" starts and I chose a song written on ukulele (a funny cute instrument for sure). When things start to slide there is a song that questions why, and finally a song of sorrow and deep loss for those sleepless nights. The overall song cycle can be repeated over and over because when sorrow ends dreams start again and love is on the mind.
